How to Take Action

The FAA and the airlines hope that affected communities will 'habituate' to the increased noise.  It is critical that we continue to apply pressure to the FAA and our elected officials, and demand that they fix this problem.  Here are some steps you can take:

1. Use stop.jetnoise.net from your phone or computer to register a complaint with the SFO every time you are bothered by airplane noise!  A Google or Facebook account is required to use stop.jetnoise.net. 

2. Sign the Petition "Reduce Aircraft Noise over Palo Alto and Neighboring Communities" on Change.org.  This petition is directed at our elected officials at the city, county, state, and federal levels.  It was started by our friends at SkyPosse Palo Alto.  Signatures ask for the name of your city to record the intensity of the problem in the Mid-Peninsula.

3. Contact Congresswoman’s Eshoo’s office (eshoo.house.gov/contact; 408-245-2339) to demand that she make addressing this issue a top priority. In addition, fill out her SFO noise survey (tinyurl.com/nlpne5a).

4. Contact Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, thank them for their letter of April 12 to FAA Administrator Michael Huerta, and encourage them to make addressing this issue a top priority.

5. Share this information with other town residents, and encourage them to file noise complaints if they, too, are bothered by airplane noise.

6. Join Quiet Skies Mid-Peninsula, a citizens' group helping to keep the town's residents informed, and working with neighboring communities to bring about lasting relief.
